The aim of this training is to enable practitioners to competently and confidently raise and respond to alcohol issues with their patients/service users, including delivering effective Brief Interventions.

Who is this training for?

GPs and other Primary Care practitioners providing a screening and brief intervention service. All medical staff working towards HEAT targets for Brief Interventions.

Frontline workers of other statutory and non-statutory services who work with service users presenting with alcohol-related issues.

Training Sessions

NHS Health Scotland devised the course content. It corresponds to SIGN 74 Guidelines on the Management of Harmful Drinking and Dependence in Primary Care. Sessions can be tailored to suit your needs and availability.

• Raising the issue of alcohol with patients/service users
• Screening using the FAST tool and providing feedback
• Delivering key components of effective Alcohol Brief Interventions
• Sign-posting and referring on

Facilitators

Our facilitators are trained by NHS Health Scotland. They also have extensive experience of delivering alcohol counselling & psychotherapy interventions with FASS, and have backgrounds in human resources and medical nursing.

Sessions may be delivered in partnership with NHS Fife Health Promotion.
